Dramatic Entrance — or a 7-Year Old Scam?

"Let's start the week off by looking at Dramatic Entrance, a card that has a long and storied history of weird spikes and near-breakouts. In fact, the last time Dramatic Entrance spiked was about seven years ago, when someone made up a fake deck and said that it won a fake event to try to cause a buyout. It didn't cause much of a ripple in the paper sphere, but some folks definitely got fooled on Magic Online (MTGO) before the disinformation was quashed, and you can see the impact it had if you pull up this price chart from the summer of 2015:

This time around, Dramatic Entrance spiked due to popular creator Aspiringspike, who revealed a pretty sweet-looking Modern deck featuring Dramatic Entrance and Atraxa, Grand Unifier. Aspiringspike's fans pretty much all immediately snapped up a playset, causing the chart to look like this:

Wow! Dramatic Entrance soared from $1.50 to $15, one of the biggest price spikes of the year by a percentage increase. The reason for the massive jump is that Dramatic Entrance was only printed once, way back in Shadowmoor, and the cards from this era that haven't been reprinted yet will do this if there's even a tiny increase in demand. Supply is just laughably low compared to cards that were printed or reprinted in the Pioneer era.

That said, I'm selling Dramatic Entrance into this spike. The deck looks more like a fun meme deck to mess around with during the time before the new March of the Machine expansion went live on MTGO than an actual player in the format, and you can already see demand falling way off after those first two days. It's certainly possible that this combo is legit, and if it is, Dramatic Entrance is an easy $50+ card, but I'd take the safe profits and cash out now."
